2020 started off for us as a year abounds with excitement & possibilities on the horizon as it was for many creative professionals. Amazing art, installations, events & adventures all awaited. However, within only a few months of the year, the entire world changed & along with it came a journey of new but unexpected experiences.
At the dawning of this new age of creativity, we’d like to discuss how we approached these uncharted waters throughout the past roller-coaster of a year as we look ahead to the new potential that the future holds!
As artists, gallery, venue owners, we learned fairly early on that in order to survive it’s imperative to be resourceful and able to adapt.
- Stay positive & creative, try not to let yourself get caught in a rut. But if you do, don’t give yourself a hard time – take the time to relax & center yourself.
- Build-up & hold onto your important relationships with those you care about. Having/developing a solid base of close friends has been really important for so many of us, especially during these unprecedented times.
- Research Grants & other emergency relief funding, they can make a huge difference.
- Platforms such as Zoom & Twitch have been immensely helpful in continuing to engage our audience & community. Although they’re not perfect & weren’t meant for much of what they’re now being utilized for they’re the base of what is making most virtual events possible right now. For the arts & entertainment industry, which other than going virtual has otherwise been brought to a grinding halt they’ve been an imperative resource.
- Social media outreach & promotion has now more than ever become a primary way of communicating with our networks & beyond as a creative, business &/or brand its vital in order to get the word out about what you’re doing.
- Working on the virtual nightclub platform “”Full Tilt Social Club”” that we’ve been helping develop during the pandemic & being part of the amazing team making all of that happen.
- Seeing our friends & cohorts such as the Vau de Vire Society, Haute to Death, Burlesque Galaxy & many more + Festivals such as Electric Forest & LIB all having success in creating streaming content.
- Becoming part of the NIVA organization (National Independent Venue Association) & having that support system as a venue owner during these strange times.
A funny thing about being known as Armageddon Beachparty is that an armageddon or apocalypse doesn’t inherently mean the literal “”end of the world”” in the larger sense. It’s symbolic & more so means, an end to a certain period of time or way of being, an unveiling or unfolding of things not previously known & a transition into something new. Let’s do our best to celebrate this transition with positivity looking ahead. Let’s make the best of this Armageddon Beachparty!
