Boenobo Zjo (aka The Klown)

Boenobo Zjo

Boenobo Zjo (aka The Klown) is a double-decade+ veteran of San Francisco’s revolutionary, trendsetting, underground live-music, DJ/EDM, and circus scenes, as well as one of its premier underbelly promoter-producers. In true renaissance-ape fashion, he creates his signature eclectic glitch-rich, swing-blinged, booty-rooty, bass-music mixes by staring into the sun for prolonged periods at certain undisclosable times. His original music is derived from vaguely familiar elements on a non-existent holographic musical periodic table of sorts.

Things have been busy over the past 20-plus years. Most recently, newly minted projects include the Airship Works event-production company, The National Revue creative services bazaar, and galactic superband Space Champs™. Further back, Boenobo co-produced and co-residented Trapeze Worldwide, the internationally acclaimed US-flagship bass music and burlesque showcase dance-party supremisto, and co-produced Bohemian Carnival, the still-chuggin’ renowned monthly indie circus and music orgy launched in San Francisco in 2006. He also founded and fronts the notorious electrofunk all-klown band Gooferman and the hybrid micro-circus bands ZjitZjo and Jolligood Carnival Supply, and co-founded the successfully deranged all-klown marching outfit TrashKan Marchink Band. He runs the tyrannical Circus Metropolus kult as well as captaining their bootyguards, The Kops, and is a veteran member of Vau de Vire Society as a performer, occasional musical director, and special ops / marketing agent.

The Klown also continues to grossly misrepresent DJing, and otherwise properly defaced musical things at venues across the States and at all kinds of festivals: Electric Daisy Carnival, Symbiosis, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Lightning In A Bottle, Lagunitas Beer Circus, Burlesque Hall of Fame, Bumbershoot, Burning Man, The Edwardian Ball, LoveFest, Bohemian Carnival, and the like. While not pursuing third place with all his might, Boenobo enjoys watching humanity deal with itself, ingesting Lagunitas Brewing Co beer, and monitoring UFO/UAF, Bigfoot and adult-content developments, all at once or in various combinations.

Right now is all about silver linings. The opportunities arising from 2020’s various and sundry bullshittery have been legion — some blindingly obvious and others a matter of where, how and why you look. I intend to show the jury that despite appearances and distractions, all evidence points to the fact that many favorable outcomes are available to those who are willing to do some real spelunking.

So here’s what we’re gonna do …

  • Simplicity and the Golden Rule — that’s all the physics you need to remember.
  • Rather than stare down the past and future, at any given moment focus on Now informed by the past and possible future. Fear can’t operate or survive in that vacuum.
  • Less talk, more walk.
  • Folks who pursue positivity with all their might.
  • Folks who’ve brought their verve and originality to bear to adapt to a one-in-a-lifetime year of uncertainty in the interest of forward progress.
  • Nature’s inevitable recovery.
  • Life’s inevitable comedy.
Live like all things are temporary.
